A recent event designed to improve quality in rented accommodation by working with private landlords across the Selby district has been branded a success.
The free event run by Selby District Council in partnership with the National Landlord Association NLA), took place last month at Selby Town Hall. A range of information stands allowed landlords to speak directly to experts about relevant issues including health and safety, financial advice and energy efficiency.
There was also a workshop session that included talks on tax and finance, safety and damp and mould.
More than 70 landlords from the area attended the Roadshow that was aimed at giving them the necessary support to deliver the best quality housing for local tenants.
Councillor Gillian Ivey, chair of Selby District Council's Social Board, said: “The event was extremely well attended. I was delighted to welcome so many people there and the feedback from the event was highly positive.
“Selby District Council ran this event because we are committed to raise standards and improve the quality of rented accommodation in the area, part of an ongoing commitment to encourage healthier communities.
“We aim to build on this event in the future by looking at other ways in which we can help private landlords get the information they need to work effectively and efficiently. With this information we can all work together to provide high quality rented accommodation in the housing market in this area,” she added.
Sandra Widdrington, chair of Selby Landlords Association and owner of Jigsaw Letting, said: “We had a stand and I was really delighted by the turn out. It was so successful and as it was first Roadshow that was organised. Everyone involved really deserves a pat on the back.
“All the landlords I spoke to really enjoyed workshops, found them very informative and helpful. It really is something that is very good for Selby and I'd like to see more of in the future.”
